Nick Walsh excites crowd at Bluemont Hotel

Country singer, Nick Walsh, rocked the Bluemont Hotel on Friday, October 12th. The fifth-floor crowd was eager to listen to some classic-fingerpicking, stringlicking guitar.

Though he is mainly a one-man guitar and vocals show, Nick also plays drums on occasion. Before the show, Nick took his time tuning guitars and meeting folks as they arrived. The room size caused an echo, speakers blaring so intense that one could feel the deepness of the notes vibrating through the tables and floor. Dressed in plaid, a cowboy hat, and boots, Nick walked onto the stage, to a lot of “hey’s!” and head nods. His fraternizing with the crowd cemented the family-friendly atmosphere.

Smiles were sliced across the crowds’ faces long before the opening tune.

Nick projected softly out through the crowd and enunciated perfectly into the starry Aggieville nighttime backdrop. The two large windows allowed you to see various buildings and at night, the lights and stars.

The songs themselves were rhythmic. Nick sported a classy country affair, swigging beer between songs and asking the crowd to fetch him another when he was running dry.

Nick chatted before the show about how performing is still a new thing in his life.

“I’ve been singing and songwriting for a year now,” Nick said. “I’ve played guitar longer but not seriously.”

Nick’s passion for songwriting was obvious: “I like music so much because it’s what I like to do. I also have control. I can’t work at a desk job and be told what to do. I can’t sit still.”

“It’s hard to write originals,” Nick continued.

Nonetheless, Nick aspires to hit the big time. “You have to be at the right place at the right time. That’s usually what it takes.”

When the performance was over, the crowd was on their feet, cheering and clapping. One person named Dave said that he, “loves Nick’s music.” Suffice to say, this wasn’t his first performance he’d heard from Nick.

Bluemont Hotel hosts live music from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm every Wednesday and Thursday; plus Fridays before home football games. The schedule for November is yet to be released at the time of this post, so check the calendar in the coming week or so.
